More information from Ibiza
Surrounded by Mediterranean waters, the island of Ibiza is famed for its explosive nightlife. Home to clubbing ‘temples’ such as Space, Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege Ibiza and Café del Mar, the island is the top destination for those who love to dance the night away to the beats of the best house, techno and trance DJs. But Ibiza also shines by day, with its beaches and bays of turquoise water, such as the secluded Cala Codolar, Cala d’Aubarca, Cala d’en Sardina and Cala es Cubells. These are just a few of the paradisiacal places where those who seek refuge from the lively nightlife go to relax and unwind after a night out.
After spending the day at the beach, stroll around the numerous buildings immersed in history, such as the Ibiza Cathedral, a Gothic temple started in the 13th century and finished in the 18th century, built on top of an old Arab temple. Another must-see are the Dalt Vila Walls, once the walls of the city, built in the 16th century by Felipe II to protect the city from Ottoman and pirate attacks.
These walls surround the Dalt Vila neighbourhood, which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, as was the Phoenician town of Sa Caleta, the only remaining example of Phoenician town planning in the Mediterranean. However, the island’s most characteristic architecture is undoubtedly the typical Ibizan house. These cubed, whitewashed buildings are sober and resilient, and have served as inspiration to masters of architecture such as Le Corbusier. Take one of our cheap flights to Ibiza to find out how, just like its beautiful houses, the island caters to your every need.
Thinking about travelling to Ibiza? With Iberia it couldn't be easier. Naturally, the fastest and most convenient way to explore this beautiful island is to take a flight, and in less than one hour you'll find yourself on the island.
The airport is situated 7.5 km from Ibiza Town, which you can reach by bus, taxi or hire car.
Ibiza's climate is typically Mediterranean, with mild average temperatures and seasonal precipitation. The dry season coincides with the summer, which is also the hottest time of year. Precipitation is irregular, varying considerably from one year to another and sometimes it is so scarce that droughts occur. Most of the rainfall is concentrated in a few days, with heavy downpours in autumn and only sporadic precipitation during the rest of the year. The average annual temperatures range between 16/18º C, with maximum averages of 29/31º C occurring in the summer and minimum averages of 5/9º C on winter nights. However, some years there are peaks of 35º C or higher and temperatures as low as -2º C, and occasionally it can be as hot as 41º C in summer an as cold as -6º C in winter.
Be sure to try "sofrit pagés", made with meat, sausage and potatoes, "arroz de matanza", a pork stew served with rice, and the fish stew known as "guisat de peix".
