Located just 115 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, Colombia’s second-largest city after Bogota is renowned for its ethnic and cultural diversity. Take one of our cheap flights to Cali to discover why the world’s best salsa singers deemed it ‘salsa capital of the world’. Although the dance has its roots in Cuba and Puerto Rico, it grew in popularity in Cali. With more than 100 salsa schools and 80 salsa orchestras, the city’s salsa scene erupts in September, when the World Salsa Festival comes to town. Every school in Cali, as well as those from abroad, participate in the festival, uniting over 5000 enthusiasts. But schools and festivals aren’t the only places you’ll find salsa, as it is danced predominantly in the streets. Districts such as La Sexta and Menga are the most popular areas for dancing. One of the most traditional Cali neighbourhoods is Granada, situated west of the city. This area is perfect for food and shopping lovers, as it is brimming with gourmet restaurants and fashionable shops. Parque del Perro, a park in the San Fernando district, and Avenida San Joaquín, in Ciudad Jardín, are also very popular places for dining out and having a drink.

Cali is not only a destination for nocturnal visitors, as it boasts a vast array of impressive monuments, blended in amongst the natural beauty of the city. The Christ the King statue, located in the Hill of the Crystals provides the best view of the city, and the Sebastián de Belalcázar monument in the west, amid rolling hills, is the most popular attraction.

The oldest district of San Antonio is also located on a hill. Rural tourism has become very popular in Cali, and Los Farallones, a national park protected by the government, attracts all types of nature lovers. Amongst others, climbers, ramblers and paragliders come here to enjoy the mild climate and green landscapes this area has to offer. Salsa your way over to Cali for a date with music, nature and dance!
