If you’re in Boston on a slightly longer holiday, why not take a day trip to Concord, a small village around 20 miles (32 kilometres) from the capital of Massachusetts. In the 19th century this village was seen as one of the great focal points of the American cultural movement. Concord attracted many great philosophers, novelists and writers of the time such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Margaret Fuller, Bronson Alcott or his daughter, Louisa May Alcott, author of the famous novel Little Women. Great places to visit include the Concord Museum, The Old Manse (the Emerson and Hawthorne mansion), the Minute Man National Historical Park or the Reuben Brown House. Likewise, don’t miss out on the Orchard House, the Alcott family home and where Little Women is set.
