It's barely 15 years old, but the Casa del Ron has already become an institution in Matanzas province. Located in the beach resort town of Varadero, it receives thousands upon thousands of visitors throughout the year, who come to learn the history of the most important liquor in the country: rum. Hint: it's made of fermented sugar cane, and has grown by leaps and bounds since its introduction by Diego de Velázquez in the 16th century to the flourishing industry it is today. Naturally, your visit will include a tasting of all kinds of rums; surely you'll recognize many of the ones you taste, but you'll also find some gems you've like never tasted before. Cheers!
