Of the 350 miles of spectacular white-sand beaches that are among Senegal's top draws, Yoff Beach is one of the most attractive, as well as among the most popular thanks to its accessibility, just 17 kilometres (11 miles) from Dakar. That also means, of course, that it's usually quite crowded - but still, well worth a visit for the experience plus views not just of the capital but some of the loveliest scenery around. And all those people means lots of fun activities - music, dance, all sorts of water sports (kitesurfing being the star), even shows like Senegalese wrestling. Be sure to stick around for the gorgeous sunset, too.
