The impressive city of Úbeda can feel a bit like a museum of the Spanish Renaissance. Perhaps the single best example is the Plaza de Vázquez Molina, with the Chapel of the Saviour, a veritable Renaissance gem, as well as the palace of the Marquis de Mancera. Another great building of that era is the Palacio de las Cadenas (Palace of Chains), housing the city hall, and very nearby the 14th-century Hospital of the Honoured Elders of Our Saviour. Apart from exploring these major landmarks, the best thing to do here is just get lost among its streets and lanes, discovering the various little churches, squares, and houses with flower-filled balconies and courtyards. There are various museums here, as well - a particular standout being the Museum of Pottery, a local speciality since the Middle Ages.
