Risco de Famara Cliff
A happy place for birders, adrenaline junkies, and sunset fans alike
Watch the birdies - or fly yourself!
One of the foremost refuges for native Canarian ecosystems as well as its top birding destination, these imposing cliffs also make a superb vantage point for Lanzarote's spectacular sunset. Adrenaline junkies can let it rip paragliding and hang gliding down to wild beaches like Playa de Famara (which, by the way, while a bit dicey for swimming is simply smashing for surfing). Plus, fun fact: recent investigations have uncovered fossilised eggs of a Canarian ancestor of the ostrich in Risco de Famara (the big question remains, along with why they went extinct, how they got to the island, given that they were flightless birds).
