Have you been walking around the city centre all morning? Do you need to recharge your batteries? Are you in the souk or in a street outside the city centre? Do you want to stop for a rest? Listen up, you will find this interesting: we suggest trying karantika, a typical recipe of the city made from chick pea flour (a popular ingredient in many Algerian recipes), egg and cumin, served up in a sandwich-shape; in fact, its name comes from the Spanish and is a derivation from calentita (hot), which refers to the temperature at which it should be eaten. Karantika is just one of Oran’s delicious aperitifs which will be easy to find while you are there; you may even find stalls selling this and other traditional dishes to take away. Any time of day is a good time to try this delicious snack.
