Barbequed meat is not exclusive to the churrascarias or rodizios (barbeque and steakhouses). This type of Brazilian restaurant has waiters moving from one table to another serving all types of dishes. There are similar restaurants on this side of the Atlantic that also offer grilled delicacies. A good example is Galitos Grill (www.galitos.com.br) on Farme de Amoedo Street in Ipanema. This restaurant, with its large street terrace, will give you the opportunity to try its magnificent skewers and other meats, either standing at the bar or seated at a table, for a moderate price. In Río, one of the common characteristics of restaurants specialising in meat is the abundance of food. A single serving is often enough to feed two or even three people! This can be proven with a visit to Bar do Arnaldo on Almirante Alexandrino Street in the Santa Teresa neighbourhood. One of the most popular dishes at this restaurant, established in 1970, is the carne do sol. This Brazilian speciality combines chunks of barbequed, or sautéed, meat with farofa (a condiment made with manioc or corn flour), and boiled beans and other vegetables.
