Griboyedov Canal
Thought of as a street, the huge importance of this canal goes without saying.
A Saint Petersburg must.
Another highlight of the city is its numerous canals and there is a great sightseeing route around these waterways, including the iconic Griboedova canal built in 1739. This canal begins in the Moika River and flows into the Fontanka River, where you'll find the Kalinkina Bridge. It was known as the Catherine canal until 1923, in homage to this Empress. Curiously, this canal is actually a street: Naberezhnaya Kanala Griboyedova, but the locals just call it the Griboedova canal. However, the fact that it is classed as a street shows just how important this canal is to the city. It is a beautiful place at any time of the year, whether in winter with its frozen water or in the warmer summer months.
