A fishing village about a half hour's drive west of San Sebastián (and reachable by public bus), Getaria has conserved its small-town maritime charm even amid the industrial area which surrounds it. Stroll from town across the isthmus to San Antón Hill, (also dubbed the Mouse of Getaria because of its silhouette viewed from a distance), atop which you can get some lovely views of the town and coast. This is also a top spot to sample the region's seafood and local txakoli white wine, with a number of excellent restaurants in the port area.
