The "Great Week" Festival
The whole city flings itself into this festivity where everything goes: fireworks, music, etc.
Local festivities.
As you can see, the summer season is the time when most of the city's activities take place. The month of August sees the festivities of Donostia's Big Week or 'Aste Nagusia'. These festivities have been a tradition since the nineteenth century, at which time the city wanted to boost its tourist appeal with bullfights. But the Great Week gradually added street music, rural sporting events and firework shows as it grew. Each event currently ends with a light-and-colour show in the Alderdi Eder Gardens surrounding the city's town hall. The city is decked out for the festivities all week long. Don't miss it!
