Most visitors interested in the classic Canary Islands beach holiday tend to head to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, or Fuerteventura. But La Palma also has its share of resort areas, and one of the most popular is Los Cancajos, in the town of Breña Baja, on the island's east coast just five kilometres (three miles) south of Santa Cruz. Its beach is 300 metres (985 feet) of classic Canary Island volcanic black sand with umbrellas and chaise-longues for rent, as well as showers and chiringuitos (beach shacks) selling drinks and light bites - amenities relatively uncommon at other La Palma beaches. And of course all throughout the area there's a full complement of hotels, resorts, holiday flats, and shopping areas.
