The ice cream making tradition in Santander is world-renowned. Some say that this ice cream originated in Vega de Pas, at the heart of the region. The same villages that created the typical quesadas and sobao cakes in the winter would make ice cream in the summer months. It is said that the original recipe was made with cheese. Whatever the case may be, the Regma company has become synonymous with ice cream and is the region’s most famous brand. There is a plethora of ice cream parlours across the province, but the most popular one is at 41, Hernan Cortes Street, around the corner from the beach. Grab a giant cone here and then take a stroll through the port and watch the sun set on the city. One word of warning: apart from being delicious, Regma ice creams are also famous for being enormous!
