This may not be the most impressive building you have ever seen. However, it is divided into two parts by the most famous archway in Santander and is the headquarters for one of the most important economic powers in the world: the Santander Bank. It is also the city’s most famous building. The Botin family, who owns this empire, has a great presence in the Cantabrian capital. One is reminded of this every time one passes underneath this archway to enter the city. The Bank actually started in an old building in 1875 and then acquired the adjacent building in the 50s, connecting the two with the archway. It is now the face of Santander, saluting the bay and the Pereda Gardens, and acting as the door to the city of Santander.
