Although it is not easily demonstrable, the town of Comillas is renowned for being the most beautiful village in Spain. Some may argue this, but it is still one of the most pleasant and beautiful places for a day trip. Located next to a picturesque beach, this village has been the backdrop for several artistic genres that make an unusual collage as a whole. Firstly, this was the only part of the region that saw the trend of Modernism. In fact, one of the must-visits here is what is known as ‘Gaudi’s Whim’, a building that was given to the village by the famous Catalan architect. Equally unmissable is Sobrellano Palace, and enormous half-Gothic, half-Venecian building that was built at the end of the 19th century for the Marquis of Comillas.
