Although you will find premium meat, grills and steaks on every corner in São Paulo, vegetarians now also have a cuisine shrine to visit. Gopala Hari, on Antõnio Carlos Street, has grown from a small spot only known to the natives, to an internationally renowned restaurant for its lacto-vegetarian Indian food with Brazilian influences. Its relaxed atmosphere with Hindu decor and spice aromas give visitors a journey to India, without having to leave São Paulo. The chef, Nrihari Devi is in charge of putting together two menus to choose from each day, as well as five choices of dessert at a truly affordable price. Curried or jasmine rice, deep fried cauliflower in a sweet and sour sauce, and massala beans are some of the dishes on offer. The restaurant only serves food at midday, so keep this in mind, and do not be surprised by the queues that form at its door.
