One of the most appealing towns of Valencia's hinterland, roughly two hours northwest of Valencia's city centre, tiny Ademuz sits amid spectacular mountain scenery and dates back to Moorish times, although settlement in the area stretches back to the Neolithic. In addition to it castle ruins and the historic attractions of its atmospheric Old Town, Ademuz is surrounded by ruggedly gorgeous, pine-forested terrain which offers countless opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoorsy activities, for example on and around peaks such as El Pinar and El Cerellar. The hearty fare hereabouts is notable, too, such as local staple gachas, a kind of porridge.
