Valencia Museum of Illustration and Modernity (MUVM)
An uncommon direct focus for a museum: the intellectual
A cutting-edge building housing a history of ideas
The "illustration" in the name of the Museu Valencià de la Il·lustració i la Modernitat refers to the antique meaning of "the action of making illustrious or honoured or distinguished". The permanent exhibition includes features like the "Route of Thought", a guided voyage from the Middle Ages to the present day - meant to illuminate Western culture throughout its history. There are similarly illuminating temporary exhibitions, conferences, a library, and a teaching centre. It's all housed in a cutting-edge building designed by popular Seville architect Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra.
