Seven days of stimulating new celluloid reinvigorates any city's culture, and this festival is proof of that in Melilla.
A topnotch cultural initiative.
Celebrated yearly in mid-May since 2009, Melilla's Cinema Week provides a shot in the arm to the city's culture, screening around 20 films, both Spanish and international, in the Kursaal Theatre and Cinema Perrelló. Opening night is of course a gala affair, with appearances and performances by filmmakers, actors, singers, and dancers from Melilla and throughout Spain. In addition to the movie screenings, there are various exhibitions, book presentations, panel discussions, and other events relating to all aspects of cinema. The festival has been a gratifying success since its inauguration, especially considering that otherwise the city is home to just one full-time cinema.
