These devotional and liturgical objects and ornaments provide a window into the importance of the city's Catholic community.
Catholic religious items spanning the 18th to 20th centuries.
Catholics are the largest of Melilla's four main faith communities, and this important municipal collection of sacred art has come together over the years as a result of donations or loans from churches, private organisations, and religious fraternities such as the brotherhood of the Virgin of Victory and Our Father Jesus the Nazarene, in collaboration with the Diocese of Malaga. Housed in the Hospedería of the Monks of Melilla la Vieja, next to the Church of the Most Pure Conception, the collection includes more than 100 objects spanning the 18th through 20th centuries, including liturgical and processional objects, ornaments and devotional pieces, and more. The museum is open from Tuesday through Sunday, and guided tours are available by reservation.
