One of Central America's best zoos is a great respite south of downtown, and of course a perfect pick for families.
Leones and tigres and osos, oh my!
And now for something completely different. If you're curious to check out one of Central America's top zoos (an especially appealing option if you're a family with kids), head to Laguna Modelo, a verdant parkland south of San Salvador's historic centre. Founded in 1953, the national zoo is of modest size - a rectangle some eight blocks in size - but well designed and home to more than 400 animals of nearly 120 species, including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish from around the planet. There are daily animal shows which attract a good number of locals.
