A handful of lovely towns and accompanying scenery that will leave you impressed and even moved.
West of San Salvador, an itinerary through towns to explore the country's rich rural heritage.
This is more than just an itinerary through the hill towns west of San Salvador; it's designed to introduce visitors to the historical and natural richness of this country's rural heritage. From the capital, it takes you through Nahuizalco, historically one of the most important centres of indigenous culture. From there the route continues onward to Salcoatitán and its coffee plantations, then Juayúa, with some stunning natural spots such as Los Chorros Waterfall. The itinerary usually winds up in Ataco, the country's highest-elevation town, from which unsurprisingly you can spy some smashing views indeed (and if you manage to time your arrival here with sunset, are you in for even more of a treat!). The route can be done in one day or stretched out longer; either way, it's bound to impress.
