Just outside Granada, a historic town keeps the carbs coming
A distinctive local treat from one particular town
Many are the Spanish regions with carby local specialities, and Granada is no exception. Specifically, pan de Alfacar is officially recognised as a bread from the eponymous town of Alfacar (from the Arabic al-Fajjar, "house of the potter"), right outside Granada. Hand-made from wheat flour and local spring water, it can come in the form of rolls, rings, and loaves. Currently there are about 30 ovens in town turning out the stuff, and most of it ends up in the bakeries and pastry shops of Granada.
