The Bridge of Balls
An Arrecife icon with some sweet sunset views
A key symbol of Arrecife
The 175-metre (574-foot) Puente de las Bolas, one of the symbols of Lanzarote's capital Arrecife, built in the 18th century and named for the granite orbs atop the tall, doughty pillars supporting its drawbridge, which along with its cannons was key in keeping pirates and other raiders out. Today it makes one of Arrecife's most typical postcards, with its impressive sunset views and strategic proximity to San Gabriel Castle, the port, and the city's old quarter.
