National Press, Periodical and Graphic Arts Museum

In Portugal, one of a kind.

If you’ve ever wondered how newspapers are created, then you’ve come to the right place. The only one of its kind in the entire country, the Museum of the Press, Journals and the Graphic Arts is a private cultural non-profit making business which first opened its doors to the public in 1997.It’s nothing more than an interactive space which offers its visitors the chance to experience the machinery used in journalism throughout its history to create newspapers and magazines. Then you’ll be able to print your own news using old and new composition and printing methods. Definitely put aside a couple of hours to make a visit to the complex. There’s also a permanent exhibition of national and foreign cartoonists and illustrators, known as “Portocartoon”, and a permanent display of typographical miniatures. There are courses and special children’s activities on offer, which makes it ideal for family visits. Going by the slogan “The Culture of Pleasure”, it bears faithful witness to the changes brought about by the graphic arts in the modernisation of Portuguese society. Check out all the information on exhibitions, timetabling and all the possibilities that the place holds on its official website:
