Lope de Vega Theatre

Broadway made in Spain.

This theatre is the centre of Broadway Madrid-style. For a few years now, this name has been applied to the part of Gran Vía that runs from the plaza de Callao to the Plaza de España where a wide range of musicals are on the agenda and the majority of the city's theatres are located. The Lope de Vega theatre occupies street numbers 53 to 59 of Madrid's famous street and is in fact a tribute to the homonymous former theatre that occupied the same location around 1850. The current building opened in 1949 and now it is Madrid's most emblematic theatre. As well as specialising in musicals, it also hosts premières, film screenings and first-class plays. If you want to make the most of your trip to Madrid and catch a musical, take a look at its schedule.
