One of Madrid's most refined and cosmopolitan postcard images. The enormous Eificio de Correos (post office building), also known as the Palacio de Cibeles or Catedral de las Comunicaciones, will leave you open-mouthed. In fact, when it was inaugurated in 1919 it marked a milestone in twentieth century urbanism along with Gran Vía. Through its bowels have passed millions of official news items, passions, joys and sorrows in the form of cards, as well as telegrams and postcards from all over the world. For some time now, it has been acting as the City Hall, which was previously located in a building on the Plaza de la Villa in Madrid de los Austrias. And currently it is also the headquarters of Centro Centro, a proposal by the town council to spread culture, art, design and the citizens' movement with facilities dedicated to expositions, an enormous Wi-Fi room and an auditorium (more information on You can sit, relax, read the newspaper, work on your laptop and admire the glass ceiling. Upstairs the best awaits: a lounge terrace with prices that aren't exactly cheap, but the views of Gran Via, the statue of the goddess Cybele and the Castellana skyscrapers are all priceless.
