Fruit fans, prepare for sweet paradise
Loquat, guava, and zapote, anyone?
With all the exotic flora that abounds in Costa Rica, it's hardly a surprise that the local selection of tropical fruits is impressive indeed. You can get the best sense of it at the local food markets, with their abundance of not only the usual suspects like avocado, banana, coconut, pineapple, and watermelon, but also the more exotic likes of custard apple, breadfruit, guava, loquat, mango, papaya, rambutan, sapodilla, soursop, and zapote plum. Ticos use them to jazz up their salads, as accompaniments (especially true of plantains), and above all in yummy desserts and juices.
