A city block splashed with colour and vegetation - a creative tour de force.
The maximum opus of an iconic 20th-century artist.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser was one of postwar 20th-century Vienna's most iconic and important artists, and it's worth a trip out to Kegelgasse in district 3 to have a look at his best known, most popular work - an entire city block, invloving an apartment block, more than 250 trees, and various other curious details, with a mix of colors and greenery on the façades that makes it hard to mix. Built between 1983 and 1986, the Hundertwasserhause had a decisive impact on the creative spirit of the city. In the nearby museum you can learn more about the artist's story and check out more of his oeuvre.
