The exclusive restaurants of Colonia Condesa and Polanco
The French legacy is still strong in Mexican gastronomy. Go to any restaurant in La Condesa or Polanco, and you will see.
The mostFrenchified places in DF.
Condesa and Polanco are the coolest areas in the city, the perfect places to enjoy a good, European-style, almost-fresh-from-Paris restaurant. French influence is still going strong in Mexican cuisine, despite their occupation lasting only five years - Napoleon III invaded the country in 1862, imposing Maximilian as a king, but the adventure was short-lived, because Mexicans got organised as guerrillas and kicked the occupant out in 1867. Occasionally, French influences have mixed with the local flavours, but there are still exclusive, haute French cuisine restaurants where the charm is still intact. One of them is "El discreto encanto de comer" (76 Orizaba street), a luxurious establishment installed in an early 1900s building. There you can taste a roquefort cheese mousse, sea bass fillets, prawns and exclusive sweet fig-based desserts. Another good restaurant to try is "Les Moustaches" (http://www.lesmoustaches.com.mx/), one of the most sophisticated in the city, located in a great stately house, where it is possible to have lunch or dinner in its fancy courtyard while listening to violin and piano music.
