San Telmo Museum

The oldest one in the Basque country.

Find this museum at the foot of Mount Urgull. You will see two very different buildings: one old and one modern. Both are the sites of this museum dedicated to Basque society from prehistoric times up to the present day. It houses collections from different disciplines: fine arts, archaeology, ethnography... The old building was a Dominican convent in the 16th century, It is Gothic in style with some Renaissance touches. The first pieces were installed in 1902: it was the first museum in the Basque Country. The modern pavilion is to one side of it It has a total surface area of more than 11,000 square metres.
