Artifacts, multimedia, and hands-on exhibits highlight El Salvador's outsize role in world sport at a museum in its national stadium.
A sports-mad country's tribute to its own achievements.
Especially for such a small country, El Salvador can be proud of its achievements in sports. And a section of the National Sports Palace, its principal stadium, on the west side of the kiddie park on Alameda Juan Pablo II, is devoted to a celebration of those achievements. Even if you're not a hardcore sports fanatic, you'll find this little museum surprisingly interesting, showing as it does the active degree to which El Salvador has participated on the sports scene on a regional, hemispheric, and global level. The extensive exhibition includes documents, trophies, uniforms, and a variety of multimedia, plus cool hands-on features like sitting behind the wheel of a race car or getting a chance to "defend" a football goal.
