For avant-garde fans, well worth a drive west of the capital to witness a very special kind of street art

CEMFAC Contemporary Art Forum

A cool open-air modern-art museum

La Palma's most avant-garde museum isn't in its capital Santa Cruz but rather in the city of Los Llanos de Aridane, some 45 minutes west. Established by the municipal authorities in the 1990s, CEMFAC is a Spanish acronym for "The City in the Museum Contemporary Art Forum", and the novel idea here is to take contemporary art to the streets, creating an open-air museum using the walls of buildings to host giant canvases, between 38 and 140 square metres (409-1,510 sq. feet).
