Walking around the centre, you'll discover churches, towers, abbeys, and facades of various colours.
An unforgettable experience
Possibly the fact of being situated in the middle of Europe was what turned the old town into a crossing place and a bargaining chip for all civilizations. Zurich shows the heterogeneity of all kinds of cultures that have walked through the streets of the old town. There are three important points that will mark your visit round the centre: in first place, there's the cathedral that was built between the 9th and 13th centuries as one of Charlemagne's whims. Look at the upper part and you'll see that its two twin towers make it unique. The 9th-century Fraumünster Church, and St. Peter's Church built during the 11th century are the other two essential buildings in the historic area. After seeing those buildings, don't miss the contrast of going round Augustinergasse to see the beautiful stone buildings and their remarkable coloured facades, and you're still left with a visit to the residential district of Schipfe, which is a very well kept secret.
