An agreeable and enlightening tour not only of El Salvador's artistic tradition but its depiction of national history and cutlure.
A great showcase of a unique artistic tradition.
El Salvador possesses an artistic identity all its own, and to appreciate it fully, you'll want to pay a visit to the Museum of Folk Art on Avenida San José, northwest of downtown. It includes several rooms devoted exclusively to national culture, from works in the more "fine art" style to traditional artisanry and handicrafts such as embroidery and masks. The most prominent is without a doubt the one devoted to Dominga Herrera's miniature figures depicting various images of the country's history, including indigenous peoples, popular musicians, and historical events. It's actually a particularly striking and memorable way to soak up Salvadoran culture.
