Geneva's theatre scene
With over 40 theatres, there's room for any repertoire, programming or show in Geneva.
A great range of cultural offerings.
The city has over 40 theatres to entertain you of an evening. La Comédie de Genève (www.comedie.ch), directed by Hervé Loichemol and one of the main theatres, offers classic and contemporary plays. Located in the heart of the city and opened in January 1913, it was the first space in the city devoted to drama. For contemporary plays, the place to go is the Théâtre Le Poche-Genève (www.lepoche.ch), an intimate room with just 130 seats with a curious, daring programme, where there's always room for the boldest plays. On the other hand, the Grand Théâtre (www.geneveopera.ch) is the most traditional venue. This is the place for dance, classical and contemporary music; their performances are often by the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and by the Ballet Du Grand Théâtre. This theatre also hosts the best opera productions in town. Its magnificent building, refurbished in 1962 after a fire, has 1,500 seats.
