Coliseu de Recreios
The octagonal coliseum - seating about 4,000 spectators - is topped with a stunning dome that takes pride in Lisbon's musical history.
A concert at Coliseu de Recreios.
Music permeates Lisbon end to end. The attentive traveller will surely notice numerous buskers standing on corners and playing tropical rhythms or the traditional fado. However, if you're after a front row seat at a live show, this huge complex is a safe bet. Built in the late nineteenth century, it was one of the first theatres using wrought iron in Lisbon's civil architecture. Today, people still marvel at its magnificent 25-metre radius dome, from which hangs a stunning art deco lamp. With a unique octagonal shape and a capacity for over 4,000 spectators, its stage has seen singing stars of the likes of tenor Alfredo Kraus. Recently, however, its schedule has turned more towards pop music, hosting live international stars such as Bon Iver or Mumford & Sons. Located downtown (Rua Portas de Santo Antão, 96), you can check its schedule here http://www.coliseulisboa.com/agenda.aspx. Satisfaction guaranteed.
