Cycle the La Rambla promenade

An indisputable plan.

The area that best defines Montevideo? Without doubt: La Rambla of the Charrúa capital. The locals live and breathe this coastal promenade that, at nearly twenty kilometres long, passes through many of the traditional neighbourhoods of the city. From west to east, it begins in the Bahía de Montevideo and weaves through the Ciudad Vieja, Sur, Palermo, Parque Rodó, Punta Carretas, Pocitos, Buceo, Malvín and Punta Gorda areas, ending in the wealthy residential neighbourhood of Carrasco. This promenade is best explored by bike, taking your time to soak up its unique charm. Hire a bicycle from any number of agencies or hotel and get set to mingle with the locals who come to the promenade to exercise, hang out with friend, drink maté and to go fishing. La Rambla is so much more than a nice walk; it's a melting pot of all different people, the true soul of the city.
