As you already knew, a river separates Asturias and Cantabria, namely the Deva River. On the Cantabrian banks, you will find Unquera, one of the most beautiful towns in the region, with the river estuary on one side and enormous mountains behind it. It is also popular for rural sports, such as the descent of the Deva in a canoe. But Unquera also has another secret: the famous corbatas (ties). This sweet treat made of puff pastry, chopped almonds, royal icing and a little extra that nobody knows about, is one of the most popular gastronomic products in Cantabria. There is a plethora of corbata shops in the area; all offering great quality sweet treats, but the most popular is El Pindal. Corbatas are the perfect breakfast, snack or dessert. Many tourists like to bring a box back as a souvenir of their trip to this mountainous region.
