Ajei House

One of Lanzarote's most famous historic manses

Designated a Canary Islands historic-artistic landmark since the 1960s, the San Bartolomé city hall's Casa Ajei dates from the 18th century, when it was built by a clan of soldiers, the Ferrers. The manse has an interior courtyard with a well, surrounded by a wooden railing and the rooms of the house. The fabled village of Ajei from which the house takes its name, is buried beneath volcanic sands. The Ferrer family descendants lived here into the early 20th century, and especially of late, it has become both a symbol of San Bartolomé and a venue for interesting artistic exhibitions.
