In 2012, the first edition of this film festival took place, heir to the African Film Festival of Equatorial Guinea organized during the previous two years by the Spanish Cultural Centres of Malabo and Bata. The objective is to bring a selection of African and Latin American independent films to different towns, through special screenings both in schools and outdoors, all accompanied by workshops, lectures and other cultural activities. This interesting festival also includes the delivery of the Ceiba Awards for best film production in the country, which gives the winner the privilege of participating in the African Film Festival of Cordoba. The headquarters of the event on the island of Bioko are the Cultural centre of Spain and the Equatorial Guinean Cultural centre, both located in Malabo, and the House of Culture of Rebola.
