Hernández Mora Collection
Displayed in downtown Maó's El Carme Church, art, maps, and books of extraordinary historical value
An extraordinary cultural trove in a church
Some of the art in downtown Maó's El Carme Church is the collection of one of the 18th century's most prominent aristocrats, Joan Hernández Mora, whose bequest includes painting, engravings, books, and a map collection which is unique in the world — all of which would have been lost to the countless fires, attacks and vicissitudes that the island has suffered over the centuries, were it not for this family's remarkable efforts at conservation.
