Green Lagoon
Dramatic colour contrasts on the west coast
A cool crater indeed
On Lanzarote's west coast near the town of Yaiza, the Charco Verde, aka Charco de los Ciclos (the latter name originating from the small crustaceans that live here) is a volcanic crater filled with emerald green water connected via underground caves and tunnels to the ocean. The landscape out here is some of the island's most admired thanks to the dramatic contrasts between the green lagoon, the black volcanic rock, and the blue sea. You can't swim here, but it's worth a visit not just for the view but also the chance to pick up some olivine, the semiprecious green stone typical of Lanzarote.
