Old South Meeting House
Today a meeting place, it was once the site of a key historical event.
The freedom of expression movement
This building has achieved global fame as the site of the Boston Tea Party on 16 December 1773, which was attended by some 5,000 colonists, although its construction dates back even further, to 1729. The Boston Tea Party was a historic political revolt led by the citizens of Boston against the British government and the East India Company, who were imposing strict control over the import of tea into the colonies. The Old South Meeting House has since become an open space for events and meetings, and is primarily dedicated to defending freedom of expression. It is in the Downtown Crossing area and is classified as a National Historic Landmark. www.oldsouthmeetinghouse.org
