Parque da Cidade (City Park)
Wiling away the hours in this park may be the perfect answer for a day spent with the kids.
The country’s largest.
An area covering more than 80 hectares serve as the calling card for this spectacular natural space, which links Porto with Matosinhos and which will take you from the city to the self same Atlantic ocean. This is the largest nature reserve in all Portugal, with more than 74 species of trees, 10 kilometres of roadways and animals such as swans, frogs and reptiles…It can turn out to be an ideal spot to hold a picnic play ball games, to jog or to walk. The Sea Life Centre (http://www.visitsealife.com/Porto/) is in the middle of its parkland and is perfect for visits with children. Another point of interest in the Parque da Cidade (The City Park) is that it has rescued the Pavilhão de Água (The Water Pavillion) (http://pavilhaodaagua.blogspot.pt/), a building designed by the architect Alexandre Burmeister, which was exhibited at the Lisbon Expo 98 and which, strangely to the eye of the onlooker, appeared to be hanging in mid-air.
