Buying and selling on the street is very much a way of life in San Salvador, whether it's lunch or lingerie.

Street stands

Vendors, vendors everywhere.

Marketplaces abound in San Salvador, and one of the first things you'll notice is that there are improvised market stalls everywhere - sometimes here and there, in some cases occupying entire streets. Strolling through the historic centre, you'll spot merchandise from knockoff brand-name fashion to toys to local handicrafts. Then there's the "Mercado móvil," where food vendors set up stands every day in different parts of the city. In areas like the Paseo del Carmen in Santa Tecla, on the other hand, you'll find local artists exhibiting and selling their works. Street commerce like this is quintessential San Salvador.
