Palace of Festivals

A green giant.

This building is easily recognisable, as it is the giant green one at the end of the Maritime Promenade, beyond Puertochico. Designed by Saenz de Oiza, it has been the subject of controversy and criticism since its inauguration in 1990, as the locals were not too pleased with both its cost and design. Despite this, the Palace of Festivals is the flagship of culture in Santander. Just the fact that it is host to the annual FIS (Santander International Festival) earns it this reputation. People from all over the world gather in Santander to participate in this annual event. During the rest of the year, this building offers diverse events, including theatre, cinema, music and various cultural activities, mixing both regional and internationally acclaimed artists.
