Make a wish!
To get to San Vicente de la Barquera, you must cross the enormous Maza Bridge. While you are crossing, don’t forget to hold your breath and make a wish, as this is a tradition of this area. The little fishing village that you arrive at is an extremely important part of the heart of Cantabria. This village dates back to prehistoric times, and you can actually visit El Barcenal megalithic park, which is a testimony to the first settlers in the area. Don’t forget to visit the spectacular Oyambre Beach, which is the source of livelihood for the locals and the symbol of this village. Today, this beach welcomes bathers, fishermen, fishing boats and tourists. After your visit to Santa Maria de los Angeles Church and San Vincente de la Barquera Castle, go down to the Old Town and sit at any restaurant next to the beach, as it is said that the best seafood in Cantabria is found here.
