Torre del Oro

A symbol of Seville.

The 'Torre del Oro' is located next to the river and was built in 1221 as part of the Alcazar's walls. Its objective was merely defensive, hence it occupied this location and it has been a very important and characteristic monument in the history of Seville. The tower is made up of three levels - the first is Almohad and it's equally divided into three levels which are distributed in the shape of arches. The second level measures 8 and a half metres, and the third is the circular cupola that leads to the terrace which you can reach by climbing the spiral staircase. You'll see that the tower seems to light up at sundown due to the sun's projection and it's a beautiful sight!
